The "park", built in 1988, is a bustling granite thoroughfare for pedestrians and commuters.

From its inception, it has
been controversial for its lack of warmth or pleasant atmos-phere.

The Urban Pulse vision is a response to Westlake Park as the heart center of down-town Seattle.

Urban Pulse is an elaborate human-scale lighting instal-lation which will enliven all of Westlake Park, softening its straight lines with round and organic forms, illuminating it with  dynamic soothing color, providing opportunities for interactive play and engaging the people who move through it to re-imagine the park as a place to pause and enjoy the center of the city
